Our dear classmate David Farrell, who was in our class during ninth and tenth grades, passed away on Jan. 26, 2025.
Here are some excerpts from his obituary, which appeared in The Republican newspaper, Springfield, MA:
David W. Farrell, 72, of Indian Orchard, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 after a long series of illnesses, surrounded by his loving family and listening to Jimi Hendrix.
David was born in Springfield on Apr. 24, 1952, the son of the late Joseph G. and Barbara (Woolfe) Farrell.
Dave retired from the Springfield Museum in 2018 and took great pride in the work he did there. He made many dear friends at the museum who appreciated his kindness and strong work ethic.
He played numerous instruments and loved classic rock and jazz. His love of music often resulted in long conversations about concerts he attended over the years, including memories of attending the original Woodstock in 1969 with his dear friend Rich.
Dave also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and his diecast car collection. He dearly loved and was very proud of his children and grandchildren and the wonderful people they all grew up to be.
In additon to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard A. Farrell, and his niece Karen Daponde. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Katherine "Kathi" (Hartman) Farrell of Indian Orchard. He also leaves behind his daughter, Jesica Stoecker and her husband, Patrick of Broad Brook CT; his son, Jonathan Farrell and his wife, Maren of Ludlow; his sister, Anne Maskowski and her husband, Dave of East Longmeadow; his sister-in-law, Fran Farrell, of Gainsesville, GA; and two grandchildren. He also leaves his dear lifelong friend, Rich O'Donnell of San Diego, CA, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. And last but not least, his treasured grandpups.
Memorial contributions may be made in David's name to the Dakin Humane Society.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Baystate Hospice for their support and guidance in caring for Dave and to the staff at Byron Keenan for their kindness.
