Rick's senior candid.
Our dear classmate Richard "Rick" Maurer passed away on Monday, Mar. 31, 2025. He joined our class in first grade.
Here are some excerpts from his obituary, which appeared on the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Center Tribute website:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard S. Maurer, 73, of East Longmeadow, on Monday, Mar. 31, 2025 at his residence.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Richard was a man who love for his family knew no bounds, always putting them first in everything he did. A selfless and hardworking man, Rick was the rock of his family - a dad who was always present, a grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his 17 grandchildren, and a devoted husband to his wife, Patricia, of 53 years, the love of his life.
Rick had a deep passion for the simple joys in life, spending his time by the beach, fishing, crabbing, listening to music, and floating. He loved nothing more than watching his children and grandchildren grow, attending their games, and celebrating family gatherings, especially those where the Steelers were on the screen. He lived life with a strong sense of purpose, always striving to teach the important lessons of working hard, loving others, showing kindness, and most importantly, having fun.
Besides his wife, Patricia, his legacy lives on through his five loving children and 17 grandchildren, all who were touched by his unwavering love and guidance. He also leaves his sister, Linda Burr and her husband, Doug of Wilbraham; his brother, Mark Maurer and his wife, Kathy of Enfield, CT; his sister-in-law, Cathy Maurer of Wales, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Mary (Rudovsky) Maurer, and his brother, Roy Maurer.
Rick will be remembered for his infectious smile, his kind heart, and the indelible impact he had on everyone around him. He is dearly missed, but his love and lessons will continue to guide his family forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104 or The Hope Lodge of Boston, 125 S. Huntington Ave., Boston MA 02130.
