Our Classmates

Sue McGill (Lombard)

Sue's senior candid.

Our dear classmate Sue McGill Lombard passed away on Feb. 29, 2024. She joined our class in third grade.

Throughout her high school years, Sue was active in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including being co-editor of the Aegis yearbook, and a member of the drill team, French Club, guidance aides, Ski Club, and field hockey teams.

Here are some excerpts from her obituary, which appeared on the Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Home website, Hamilton, NY:

Susan (McGill) Lombard, 71, died peacefuly on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 in Hamilton, NY, at the home of her sister, Pat McGill Stringham.

Susan was born on Nov. 26, 1952 in Springfield, MA, the youngest child of Harry A. and Dorothy (Anderson) McGill.

Susan graduated from East Longmeadow High School and the University of Massachusetts.

She spent a short time as a social worker and working in her family's business before moving to Cape Cod, where she managed the Outlet Mall. It was there that she met Jack Lombard, who she married at the Unitarian Church of Longmeadow, MA. They spent wonderful years on Cape Cod with family and long-lasting friends. Moving with Jack to Bonita Springs, FL to be close with her parents, Sue continued to make friends with those she met in her neighborhood and at work. She used her management skills as a successful property manager for condominium complexes, where she earned a reputation for kindness and compassion.

Sue was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Jack. Following the death of her husband, she then moved in with her sister in Hamilton before finding her dream bungalow in Sherrill, NY.

Susan lived her final years as she wished, spending time with those she loved. Sue had an extraordinary capacity to find good in all people and places. Her smile radiated that love as she traveled to see dear friends and family on Cape Cod. Her longtime friends, Stephanie, Susan, and Kathy, danced with her in Maine. Family friends, Fran and Shari, shared a "sisters" pajama party on the lake. She and her sister went to shows and spas. They went to concerts and hiked in the Adirondacks with Pat's husband, Richard and their dogs. Holidays were special with the family, whether they were at parades, fireworks, or riding the train to the North Pole.

Susan leaves her brother, Harry McGill (Sharon) and her sister, Patricia McGill Stringham (Richard). She leaves a nephew and two nieces, as well as several grand-nephews and nieces. Susan especially loved the children in the family and embraced them all. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Bingo.

Contributions in Susan's name can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413. Another way to remember her would be to live as she did. Be nice whenever possible. It's always possible.

We will miss Sue.  She was a wonderful person with a huge heart who was a great leader in a quiet sort of way.  Rest in peace, Sue.
